Tiff Needell called it a super car ….. a budget super car, but still.
ANDOMGJEREMYCLARKSONLIKESIT, well not the ride at the end but he has to hate on everything American so I'm okay with it.
So Want, Very Deal, Wow, Many U.S.

I used to not be a fan, but I'm coming around. Even to the point where I'd actually like to own one someday. I think it's the best combination of performance and looks for the price. You can get better performance, but not in such an attractive package.
Dat interior tho...

Thats where the C7 comes in...
Although, screw the interior! As long as it doesn't rattle louder than the exhaust then all is good.

I'd like to challenge your "you can get better performance" statement with a screenshot from the top gear clip.
PS - the 575 Ferrari was further down the list at 1:26.

Yeah I was thinking vettes in general, not Z06. Statement retracted

Ehhh if I'm spending 40k I want an interior that doesn't remind me of a 2003 Cobalt

An alcatera or leather wrap, different shift knob, and some Recaros would fix it though..

I can see your point... But I am just not picky when it comes to interiors in performance cars.
If I were paying for a cruiser / luxury car they approach would be very different though.

i.e. a 2011+ Z06.

Well it seems everyone went brand new and got the wrong answer.

Ahh I'm not sure, this was a few year ago. But those are the cars that surprise you?! They're all down on power, Murcie & Zonda being slower surprised me.

Yeah, the Z06 hangs with some very impressive/expensive/exotic supercars.
It's pretty much dead even with the 911GT3 RS as well, they could rerun both laps and flip flop the results, they are well within the margin of error of each other.
![]() 01/06/2014 at 13:13 |

hmm, the 911 and Z06 are well within each others margin that they are pretty much equal, what car was above the 911?

upon further review these cars …. and it doesn't appear to be very many of them.

They need to get their priorities in order

Very true words.

Because all those cars eclipse the Z06 on a straight line, at least slightly.

For $40k? Lotus Elise S. It's unique enough that you get a ton of attention. It's cute, so girls like it. No one knows what it is, so there are no stereotypes associated with it (plus the Lotus community is awesome). It's the best feeling car... in the world.
Only negatives: Getting in and out of it is awkward, though easier with the top off. It's made out of wishes and unicorn farts, so don't park it were shopping carts can even see it. Filling up with gas takes a lot longer than the 10g tank would have you believe, due to questions and compliments. Unlike the Corvette, if you are overweight and over-tan you look out of place in it (if you can fit).
Also, all of those negatives are for people who wholeheartedly enjoy what Toyota's been doing with the Corolla.

Yea, I'll admit the elise is awesome. Its a dream car of mine, and many others for a reason. but you can't deny the speed/laptimes of the Z06. 1:22 vs a 1:25 for a Exige on the top gear track.

True. I've driven both (owned one). The Z06 is stupid fast, but it's not as good - if that makes sense.
Every aspect of the Elige (I prefer the Elise, because taking the top off is worth it) makes it a more unique driving experience. Plus when I sold mine after two years the net depreciation was $400. I traded it in instead of doing a private sale, where I would have made money.
$400 to drive an Elise for two years is a pretty good deal.

Damn well that might be the top of my list now, not that its hard to convince me.
